KICKING AND LONGSNAPPING CAMP SLATED FOR JUNE 10-11 AT EKU

RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Roy Kidd's Eastern Kentucky University Kicking and Longsnapping Academy, featuring Pro Bowl kicker Ray Guy, will be held on campus, June 10-11.

Having recognized the importance of the kicking game and the longsnapping sequence in the making of a successful football program, EKU, 17 years ago, held its first kicking camp.

"The entire snap-to-kick sequence is part of our practice sessions," said Kidd. "This gives campers a tremendous advantage in that they not only learn advanced training techniques but 'accelerated' skill development as well."

The Ray Guy Kicking Academy has assembled the most sought after teaching professionals in football, including:

- Ray Guy, 14-year punter in the National Football League with the Oakland Raiders who led the NFL in punting three times, made the Pro Bowl seven times and recorded 619 straight punts without a block.

- Rick Sang, former EKU punter who serves now as the Director of American Football Specialists and the Ray Guy Kicking Academy. He was the punter on EKU's 1979 NCAA Division I-AA national championship team and served as the kicking coach on the 1982 national championship squad at EKU.

- Bill Pitts, national coordinator of the Kicker and Punter Talent Search Program who serves as the Academy's Kicking Coordinator.

- Gerald Robinson, who is tremendous at developing individual skills and directs the soccer style kickers.

- Paul Leroy, who serves as the Academy's Punting/Longsnapping Coordinator and who was Ray Guy's high school coach.

- Tim Williams, former Ohio State kicking great who coordinates all combination specialists.

Campers will receive proven techniques and fundamentals; an instruction guide loaded with developmental drills; accelerated skill development through the integrated "snap to kick" instruction; production of their own training video; video tape analysis; personal evaluation; demonstrations by outstanding specialists; competition among other talented high school and collegiate athletes; enhancement of scholarship opportunities; and strength training and flexibility drills.

Campers will be housed in Palmer Hall, an air-conditioned dormitory on the EKU campus. Meals will be served in the Powell Building Student Center and will be planned by a dietitian to provide for the maximum nutritional needs of each day. Drills and flexibility exercises will be conducted at Roy Kidd Stadium.

The cost of the camp is $225 for the overnight camper and $185 for the commuter camper.
