RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University head football coach Roy Kidd and Colonel offensive lineman Tyrone Hopson are on the island of Maui taking part in the Hula Bowl All-Star game festivities in preparation for Sunday's (Jan. 24) matchup of the North vs. South senior all-stars.
Hopson, 6-3, 309-pound senior tackle from Owensboro, was a first-team choice on the Burger King Division I-AA American Football Coaches Association first-team All-American team for 1998. He was a four-year letterwinner, three-year starter and two-year, first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference selection for the Colonels.
Kidd, who just completed his 35th season at the helm of the Eastern Kentucky football program and a one-year term as President of the AFCA, will serve as an assistant coach for the North squad, of which Hopson will be a member.
"Tyrone was able to work out a couple of weeks before we left for Hawaii. He is in good shape and ready to go. I hope he can perform well, so the pro scouts will get a chance to see him play in real game action," Kidd said.
