KICKING AND LONGSNAPPING ACADEMY SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 12-13
RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Kentucky University football coach Roy Kidd's Kicking and Longsnapping Academy with former National Football League star Ray Guy is scheduled to be held on the EKU campus, June 12-13.
Open to youngsters age 10-18, the EKU Academy will give athletes the finest football instruction possible and provide guidance and proper skill learning, enabling each athlete to reach maximum potential.
"To have a successful football program, you have to have a good kicking game. That's why we stress that at EKU and why we began Kentucky's first-ever kicking instructional school on our campus more than 15 years ago," said Kidd.
Committed to providing athletes with the best learning opportunities available, Guy and Rick Sang, Director of American Football Specialists, are among the qualified instructors who have continued to help provide the most comprehensive kicking and longsnapping program of its kind.
Also assisting will be Bill Pitts, National Coordinator of the Kicker and Punter Talent Search Program, who will serve as the Academy's Kicking Coordinator, and Paul Leroy, Guy's former high school coach, who will serve as Punting/Longsnapping Coordinator for the Academy.
Guy is a member of the NFL All-Time Team, while Sang was a punter/receiver on the 1979 and 1982 EKU I-AA national championship teams.
After earning 16 varsity letters in four sports and averaging 52 yards per punt, Guy went on to enjoy an extraordinary career at Southern Mississippi, recording 18 interceptions and a 61-yard field goal which stood as an NCAA record for a long time, while also handling the punting and placekicking duties for USM.
Guy led the NCAA in punting (46.2) in 1972 and in 1973 became the first punter ever chosen in the first round of the NFL draft. He went on to average 42.4 yards per punt in his 14 seasons with the Oakland Raiders. He led the NFL three times in punting, made the Pro Bowl seven times, played a key role in each of the Raiders' three Super Bowl victories and received 619 consecutive snaps without getting a punt blocked, second-best stint in NFL history.
The EKU Academy provides a concentrated program of instruction, focusing on the specific skills of kicking (conventional and soccer style), punting and longsnapping. Academy participants will learn proven techniques and fundamentals through an unique step-by-step method.
Also available will be extensive video tape analysis and production of each participant's own training video, which captures the athlete's technical development on site and includes exclusive footage of the Academy's teaching professionals demonstrating their skills.
The EKU Kicking and Longsnapping Academy conforms with all pre-high school and high school National Federation rules and players may participate without jeopardizing any eligibility. Cost for an overnight camper is $200.00, while a day camper's cost is $150.00. Each registration includes a $50.00 non-refundable deposit.
