COLONELS BEGIN THREE-GAME HOMESTAND WITH SOUTHEAST MISSOURI

RICHMOND, Ky. - Coach Roy Kidd's Eastern Kentucky University football Colonels begin a three-game homestand with a 1:30 p.m. game Saturday with Southeast Missouri State University at Roy Kidd Stadium.

Eastern broke a three-game conference losing streak with a 47-29 victory over UT Martin last Saturday to even its overall record at 4-4 and move into fifth place in the Ohio Valley Conference standings with its 2-3 league mark.

Southeast Missouri gave Middle Tennessee all it wanted last week, falling just short at the end on a missed two-point conversion and losing to the Blue Raiders, 21-19. The Indians fell to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the OVC.

"SEMO has played everybody tough this year," said EKU head coach Roy Kidd. "We did some good things in our win over UT Martin, but need to step it up and be more consistent and work on our concentration."

In the win over UT Martin, EKU junior quarterback Jon Denton threw four touchdown passes for the second time this year (also accomplished this feat in season opener vs. Kentucky State) tieing a single game school record in hitting TD tosses of 57, 9, 5 and 20 yards against the Skyhawks. On the afternoon, he finished the game 15-23 for 195 yards.

Denton has now thrown 16 scoring passes this season, which ties him for the Eastern single season record held by Mike Whitaker in 1986. For only the third time this year, he was intercepted, breaking a string of 139 consecutive passes he had thrown without an interception.

This performance vs. UT Martin moved Denton to fourth in the nation in pass efficiency with his rating of 158.8, a mark which also leads the OVC.

Denton's main target, senior All-American wide receiver Rondel Menendez, also had quite a game against UT Martin. He hauled in 10 receptions for 168 yards and had two TD catches (57 and 20 yards). Menendez is now leading the conference in receiving yards per game (111.5) and is second in the league in receptions per game (6.0).

Menendez added to his EKU career pass receiving yardage total (2,627), tops on the all-time Eastern charts. He is also only 13 catches away from second-place Aaron Marsh (1964-67) and 20 from all-time EKU leader Bobby Washington (1994-97) with his 134 career receptions. He moved within one TD catch of Eastern's career leader, Marsh, who caught 24 scoring tosses.

Defensively, linebacker Charles Tinsley and defensive back Tony Woods returned pass interceptions 47 and 88 yards for scores against the Skyhawks.

Tickets for the last three home games are available by visiting the EKU Athletics Ticket Office in Room 126 of Alumni Coliseum or by phoning (606) 622-2122 or 1-800-262-7493 (inside Kentucky). Ticket booths open at the stadium Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.
