Two Letters... Derick will be called upon this season to again fill the role as one of the starting tailbacks in the Colonels' offense... coming off great winter and spring off-season workouts... showed in spring drills that his senior year might indeed be a special one... has worked hard to improve in those areas noted by Colonel coaches and his advancement in those areas has been noticed by the staff... has chance to return to All-OVC status in 1999... leading returning rusher for Colonels from 1998 with 556  yards... member of Winners Club for last season... turned in a solid  1997 campaign, rotating as the team's starter with Corey Crume... received first team all-conference recognition as he closed his sophomore year as the OVC's third-best rusher with his 78.1 per game rushing  average... was OVC Offensive Player of the Week vs. Tennessee State as he rushed 18 times for an EKU career best 126 yards and three TD's... had four plus 100-yard games in 1997... transferred to EKU from the University of Kentucky in 1997 after registering a very impressive rookie campaign for Kentucky in 1996... was the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Year and a  first team SEC All-Freshman Team runningback by the Knoxville News-Sentinel last season for UK after finishing eighth in the league in rushing average with his 700 yard total... played in 10 games for the '96 Wildcats, starting six at tailback, scoring six TD's rushing  with a long run of 70 yards vs. Vanderbilt... set UK freshman single-game rushing record with 186  yards vs. Mississippi State... had three consecutive 100-yard rushing games... also caught 12 passes for 63 yards and threw a 55-yard TD pass vs. Mississippi State in his only passing attempt... led the state of Texas in 1995 in rushing after gaining 1,967 yards on 250 carries, averaging 7.9 yards per carry for Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, TX... scored 19 TD's  and set single-season school rushing records for attempts, yards, touchdowns and long run (89)... ran for 301 yards in one game... was  a first-team all-state, all-region and All-Rio Grande Valley choice... also made All-RGV honors in basketball... started two years at Chatham (VA) High School before transferring to MMA... gained 1,048 yards  rushing in 1994 and his 23 TD's led the region in scoring... rushed for 844 yards and 14 TD's in 1993... has recorded 10.8 time in 100-meter dash in high school track... track team's MVP for two years and was the basketball MVP one season... coached at Marine Military Academy by Reggie White and coached at Chatham by Kerrie Richards... graduate of Marine Military Academy.
